British Government Strengthens Russia Sanctions Legislation Over Ukraine

The U.K. government introduced legislation Thursday that will significantly expand Britain's sanctions regime against Russia, including by allowing officials to potentially blacklist Kremlin-linked oligarchs for the first time. Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who met her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Thursday, said after the talks that the U.K. government would not hesitate to issue sweeping sanctions against Russia if President Vladimir Putin greenlights a military offensive against Ukraine.
