Crypto Task Force Recommends ‘Tailored’ BSA Regs for VASPs

The White House's new cryptocurrency task force proposed amending the Bank Secrecy Act on Wednesday to explicitly subject certain types of virtual asset service providers, some of which operate from overseas, to federal anti-money laundering requirements. In a 168-page report, the interagency task force, which President Donald Trump unveiled on Jan. 23, recommended that Congress modify the BSA to clearly include VASPs, but only within certain "categories and subcategories," and with AML and combating-the-financing-of-terrorism obligations tailored towards their unique models of business.
