EU Ministers Say Nations Must Hasten Enforcement of Counterterrorism Standards

EU member-states must more quickly transpose and implement the bloc's proposed and finalized mandates to cut off terrorists' funding and bolster security, European leaders said following a ministerial meeting Thursday. Last month, the European Commission finalized an action plan to strengthen the EU's crackdown on terrorist financing, in part by setting a year-end deadline for nations to adopt the bloc's Fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive, imposing more oversight over virtual currencies and prepaid products and drafting a blacklist of countries with weak controls to fight financial crime.
