A proposal that would allow the EU's 27 nations to continue charging for access to the personal details of corporate owners could impede financial crime investigations and anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance, sources told ACAMS moneylaundering.com. The EU's Open Data Directive, passed in June 2019, sets a list of "high-value datasets," including corporate records, trade statistics and meteorological information, that the bloc's 27 national governments must make available to the public free of charge for the benefit of individuals, businesses, media organizations and other groups.
