Germany’s Incoming Government Wants Local Police in Federal FIU

Germany's new government wants to install local authorities within the federal financial intelligence unit amid an unprecedented criminal investigation into alleged failures by the agency to pass on intelligence to police in the northwestern state of Lower Saxony. As part of their Nov. 24 coalition agreement, Germany's Social Democratic Party, Green Party and Free Democratic Party vowed to implement a range of measures to boost the country's campaign against illicit finance, including banning cash purchases of real estate and enhancing corporate transparency.
