Lawmakers Question FinCEN’s Prepaid Product Rule Delays

Senators chastised the U.S. Treasury Department Wednesday for delays in regulating prepaid access products that can be used to smuggle drug proceeds from the United States into Mexico. Lawmakers in the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control questioned why the department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) was over a year late in finalizing broad anti-money laundering (AML) rules on stored value cards, and had yet to propose regulations on the cross-border transfer of the cards.
