Organized crime syndicates in Europe are increasingly using “money mules” to launder their profits via bitcoins and other digital currencies, EU authorities claimed Tuesday.
The European Police Office issued a press release announcing the arrest of 178 individuals in association with an investigation of money mules, who act as money laundering intermediaries for criminals. The defendants are allegedly responsible for total losses amounting to €23 million.
