Obama Administration, Lawmakers Call for More White Collar Investigators

Plans to increase the number of federal financial crime investigators advanced Thursday as the Obama administration and lawmakers alike called for more resources at the U.S. Justice Department. In its 2010 budgetary proposal, the White House said it hoped to increase funding for the department by $1 billion, to $26.5 billion. A portion of the budget increase would be used to hire an unspecified number of additional FBI agents to fight white collar crimes and mortgage fraud, as well as to hire more federal prosecutors and civil litigators, the White House said.
