Obama Budget Proposes More Funding for FinCEN, Banking Supervision

The Obama administration Thursday proposed funding increases for federal bank supervision and the U.S. Treasury Department agency that oversees the implementation of the Bank Secrecy Act. In its 2010 budget request, which builds on a preliminary proposal released in February, the administration recommended increasing the department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network's (FinCEN) funding by 12 percent, to $102.8 million. Nearly all of the increase should be slated for FinCEN's Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) administration, according to the White House.
