Payment Platforms, Real Estate Fueled STR Spike in Germany Last Year

Like previous years, and as with those in most, if not all, other countries, banks and other mainstream financial institutions in Germany filed the vast majority of the nation's final, combined tally of roughly 299,000 suspicious transaction reports, or STRs, in 2021. But the most notable climb in reporting volume in Germany last year traces back to payment services providers, or PSPs, and electronic money institutions, or EMIs, which together helped drive the country to a record-high total for the 11th consecutive year by filing more than 95,000 STRs, up from only 238 STRs in 2020.
