Tories Would Empower Commission to Shut Down ‘Extremist’ Charities

The newly elected Tory government wants to empower the United Kingdom's Charity Commission to close down groups that "misappropriate funds towards extremism and terrorism" as part of its efforts to combat terrorism. The plan is part of a new Counter-Extremism Bill aimed at tackling radicalization and making it "much harder for people to promote dangerous extremist views in communities," according to a Downing Street statement issued Wednesday.
