U.S. Readying ‘Deliberate Response’ to Latest Ukrainian Violence, Says Sanctions Chief

U.S. and European officials are developing a coordinated response to recent attacks on Ukrainian civilians and could announce additional sanctions against Russia as early as this week. In a statement, the European Commission said that it had scheduled an emergency session of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels Thursday to address escalating violence in Ukraine. The plans shortly follow the disclosure by an intergovernmental group that separatists in the Donetsk region shelled a residential area of Mariupol, Ukraine, killing 30 people.
