U.S. Sanctions Three Iranian Companies as Lawmakers Call Prohibitions Ineffective

U.S. officials Thursday blacklisted an Iranian financial institution and two other companies linked to the country's elite military arm as lawmakers separately questioned the efficacy of economic sanctions against the nation. Tidewater Middle East Company, Iran Air and Mehr-e Eqtesad-e Iranian Investment Company have actively aided Iran's pursuit of weapons of mass destruction, the U.S. Treasury Department said.
