U.S. Treasury Department Designates Hamburg Bank with Iran Ties

The U.S. Treasury Department's sanctions arm Tuesday blacklisted a Hamburg, Germany-based bank for its alleged ties to four blacklisted Iranian banks. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) identified Europaisch-Iranische Handelsbank AG (EIH) as "one of the few remaining European banks actively facilitating business with Iranian banks." The German bank has handled billions of dollars in transactions on behalf blacklisted Iranian financial institutions, the agency said in a statement.
