UK Kleptocracy Cell Steps Up Efforts Against Corruption, Russia Sanctions Evasion

More than £11 billion of assets that U.K. authorities have frozen pursuant to financial and commercial embargos against Russia over the past year link back to "targets" of a new unit tasked with combating sanctions evasion and corruption, a senior investigator said Tuesday. The Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation, or OFSI, disclosed in November that up to that point, British banks and other companies had restrained more than £18 billion from blacklisted Russians since the Kremlin-ordered invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, around £6 billion more than what they had frozen pursuant to all other sanctions programs.
