UK Weighs Departure from EU Sanctions Policies Post-Brexit

British officials are in the early stages of considering whether to retain links to the European Union's sanctions after the United Kingdom exits the bloc, whose asset freezes and travel bans often don't survive judicial scrutiny. By 2014, the European Council was losing most of the sanctions-related cases reviewed by the General Court of the European Union, which cited procedural errors and scant evidence in annulling the bloc's designations of dozens of individuals and entities, including Hamas, a Sri-Lanka-based insurgent group and several state-owned banks in Iran.
