United Kingdom Convicts First Individual Under Criminal Finance Monitoring Law

The United Kingdom has made its first conviction under a law that allows authorities to monitor the financial activities of convicts while they serve criminal sentences. Roy Williams was found guilty Monday in City of London Magistrates Court of failing to disclose the existence of a bank account he held in Spain while serving an eight year sentence for drug trafficking and fraud offenses. Under a 2005 law, U.K. law enforcement officials are authorized to monitor a convicted criminal's finances to detect any further criminal activity while they are serving a sentence.
