US Officials, Global Banks in New York Targeting North Korean Accounts

The U.S. Treasury Department has launched joint investigations with the New York branches of large foreign financial institutions to identify and terminate relationships with clients suspected of funneling funds for North Korea, a senior official said. Marshall Billingslea, a senior deputy with the department's Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, told lawmakers Thursday that his unit has made "pretty good progress" in helping lenders "drill down into the particular account holders we believe are North Korea-related to get them to expunge those people from their bank rolls."
