White House Boosts Sanctions Against Drug Traffickers and Middlemen

U.S. officials blacklisted 25 individuals and entities Wednesday under a new executive order targeting drug traffickers and their "means of production," as well as any attorneys and other professional enablers who "knowingly received any property" derived from narcotics sales. The directive expands the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, a 1999 law against drug trafficking pursuant to which more than 2,200 individuals and entities have been blacklisted, though few of those targets held substantial sums in the U.S. that financial institutions could freeze or block.
