Expected Trial of Alleged Arms Dealer Will Bring to Light U.S. Financial Dealings

A U.S. trial against alleged Russian arms trafficker Viktor Bout could shed new light on how proceeds derived from his smuggling network moved through U.S. banks, say analysts. A Thai appellate court in August ordered the extradition of Bout, a former Soviet officer, to the United States to face terrorism charges for allegedly attempting to sell missiles and other weapons to the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC). Bout, held since his March 2008 arrest in Bangkok, is fighting the extradition with the support of the Russian government.
