With Bribery Deadline Looming, UK Firms Look Closely at Liabilities

Many large British companies are putting the final touches on their compliance efforts ahead of a Friday enforcement deadline of the country's broad, new anti-bribery law, say U.K. consultants. The measure, which passed into law in April 2010, prohibits U.K.-based businesses from bribing foreign officials in order to win contractual work. In March, the U.K.'s Ministry of Justice said it would exempt certain non-British companies with a limited footprint in the country from the law after businesses complained that its requirements were overly severe.
