FATF to Amend Recommendations on Terror Finance and Nongovernmental Groups

A global anti-money laundering watchdog will tweak its standards on fighting terrorist financing and managing the risks of nonprofit organizations, the intergovernmental group said Friday. Following the conclusion of a plenary meeting in Paris, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) said that a fact-finding initiative had shown that some jurisdictions have failed to implement counterterrorism measures as required under its fifth and sixth recommendations. Under the recommendations, countries must criminalize terrorist funding, quickly freeze related assets and blacklist militants and their financial backers.
