Congolese Firm Served as ‘Cash Machine’ and Waypoint for Corruption: Report

A Congolese investment firm shifted tens of millions of dollars in misappropriated funds through a bank that shared "extensive links" with relatives and associates of Congo's former President Joseph Kabila, according to independent research. The firm, Kwanza Capital, launched in June 2014 as a quasi-investment bank operating out of a nondescript "commercial garage" in the Congolese capital of Kinshasa, according to a 49-page report published Wednesday by the Sentry, an advocacy group that primarily investigates corruption and illicit finance in Africa.
