EU Imposes First Sanctions Against China Since 1989

The European Union, Britain and the United States on Monday blacklisted Chinese officials allegedly involved in the ongoing persecution of Uighur Muslims in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. EU and British authorities designated the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, or XPCC, a state-run organization responsible for managing hundreds of internment camps in China's westernmost region, where as many as 2 million Uighurs have been detained in the past four years.
