Estonian Investigators Pursue New Asset-Freeze and Forfeiture Power

Estonian officials will soon pitch legislation that would give investigators as long as 12 months to review suspicious transactions and seize funds absent proof of legitimate income. The proposal, which ministers are expected to advance to Estonia's parliament as soon as Thursday, would help address the challenge officials face in halting the flow of suspicious funds into the Baltic nation from Russia and other former Soviet states, Madis Reimand, head of the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit, or FIU, told ACAMS moneylaundering.com.
