EU plans to deter criminals from moving assets between member states have exposed wide-ranging vulnerabilities in the current legislative system, say analysts. The Commission's proposed regulation, which aims to speed up cross-border implementation of freezing and confiscation orders and to minimize the scope for different practices between member states once passed, has been developed in response to repeated calls from the European Parliament and Council to close the loopholes in the EU legal system.
