EU Chiefs Adopt Plan to Shield European Firms from US Sanctions Against Iran

EU leaders unanimously approved a proposal to “block” U.S. sanctions against European firms trading with Iran, officials announced Thursday. Following President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from a global nuclear accord with Iran, the U.S. Treasury Department warned foreign firms to either “wind down” ties with the country by 90-day and 180-day deadlines or risk losing access to the U.S. financial system.
