European Parliament Supports More Access to Ownership Data: Sources

Plans to expand access to data identifying the beneficiaries of companies and trusts following a massive leak of documents from a Panamanian law firm last year now enjoy broad support in the European Parliament, say sources. In July, the European Commission proposed amending the Fourth Anti-Money Laundering Directive, or 4AMLD, to make a "limited set of information" on the beneficial owners of companies and trusts available to the public shortly after records obtained from Mossack Fonseca revealed the extent to which legal entities are used to move funds without detection.
