OCC Drops Charges Against Miami Attorney Accused of Aiding Jailed Bankers

The U.S. Treasury Department dropped a long running case Tuesday against an attorney it said covered up the fraud that eventually led to the dissolution of a Miami bank. The decision by the department's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency closes the chapter on nearly three years of legal wrangling between the agency and Miami attorney Carlos Loumiet, who faced civil charges of suppressing evidence and making false statements to conceal executive fraud at the now defunct Hamilton Bank, also based in Miami.
