Senator to Introduce Syrian Sanctions Bill

The chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations will introduce legislation intended to cut off Syria's "economic lifelines" with Russia and Iran, he said in a hearing. In a hearing Thursday on U.S. policy towards the war-torn Mediterranean nation, Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) said that he would propose legislation "in the weeks ahead" that would reflect a strategy to increase support of the Syrian Opposition Coalition, improve humanitarian aid to the country and target the finances of the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
