‘Skincare’ Fraudster Relied on US Legal Entities and Accounts: Prosecutors

An online fraudster formerly based in Puerto Rico used bank accounts held by more than 100 "straw companies" to funnel nearly $100 million from bogus sales of skin cream and other personal care products through the U.S. financial system, federal prosecutors said. Gopalkrishna Pai, who was arrested in Texas, and other "participants in the conspiracy" allegedly recruited "real individuals" to provide their names, social security numbers and other records, then used the personal data to open 116 shell companies with undescriptive names such as Bright Future Concepts, Fastlane Sales and Tailwind Networks.
