Trump Signs Hong Kong Sanctions Bill

The U.S. Treasury Department may impose a raft of financial sanctions against overseas lenders that facilitate China's alleged political and security crackdown in Hong Kong under newly enacted legislation. President Donald Trump signed the Hong Kong Autonomy Act into law Tuesday amid an escalation of political and economic tensions between the U.S. and China after Beijing issued a national security law on June 30 widely perceived as restricting the Chinese region's self-government and democratic freedoms that are part of a thirty-five-year-old international accord.
