US Beneficial Ownership Database Approaches Legal Hurdle

A business group's legal challenge against the Corporate Transparency Act, or CTA, faces an uphill battle in court, sources told ACAMS moneylaundering.com, but publicity surrounding the federal lawsuit may delay the development of the ownership registry mandated by the law. The 38-page complaint, which the National Small Business Association filed in Alabama on Tuesday, criticizes the CTA as constitutionally untenable, and targets the Treasury Department; Secretary Janet Yellen and Himamauli Das, acting director of the department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, the federal bureau tasked with implementing the legislation.
