US Lawmakers Set Sights on Russian Oligarchy’s Penthouses, Other Assets

U.S. senators introduced legislation Tuesday that would greatly expand the government's ability to confiscate luxury properties, investments and other assets that blacklisted Russians own in the United States. The bill, which the bipartisan group pitched in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, would enable federal authorities to seize holdings such as cash and real estate of more than $2 million in value from Russian nationals designated by the U.S. for having enriched themselves through corruption, suppression of human rights or political support for President Vladimir Putin.
