Virtual Reality Videogame Gets Real-World Banking License

Sweden has granted a banking license for an Internet videogame that allows players to use real money to buy virtual goods, the first time such a license has been granted for online financial services. Swedish-based MindArk, maker of online multiplayer game "Entropia Universe," confirmed Thursday that Sweden's Financial Supervisory Authority granted their request last week to start an Internet-based bank that would allow users to more easily transact business in the game and retrieve their money outside of it, including with a debit card at any automatic teller machine.
