Congressman Calls for Justice Department Task Force on Mortgage Fraud

A U.S. lawmaker called Thursday for the formation of a federal task charged with coordinating law enforcement investigations and training related to mortgage fraud. Rep. Kendrick Meek, a Democrat from Florida, introduced a bill that would create the group within the U.S. Justice Department, and would include branches in the ten states with the most instances of the crime. Meek proposed a related bill in 2008 that was passed by a House of Representatives vote of 350 to 23, but blocked in the Senate.
