Lawmakers Call on Justice Department to Better Explain ‘Material Support’ Ban

Lawmakers are asking the U.S. Justice Department to clarify how it will prosecute individuals and groups that aid terrorist organizations, and whether those cases could involve innocent charity groups. In a hearing by the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) called on U.S. Attorney General Holder to draft prosecutorial guidelines that would "remove the uncertainty about the scope of the terrorism material support law." Under the material support ban, Americans are prohibited from providing funds, arms, training or other aid to blacklisted terror groups.
