Qatar’s Efforts to Fight Terrorist Financing Lack Teeth, Say Consultants

Less than two years after U.S. diplomats mentioned concerns that Qatar's terrorist financing problems may be "the worst in the region," the country has done little to effectively limit the crime, say experts. In a December 2009 leaked cable published last week by Wikileaks, U.S. diplomatic officials speculated that Qatar's cooperation with counterterrorism financing investigations could be worse than Saudi Arabia's, a country longed portrayed as the chief source of funding for terrorist groups.
