U.S. Blacklists North Korean Bank for Ties to Sanctioned Institution

The U.S. Treasury Department blacklisted a North Korean bank and the president of another financial institution Friday for allegedly helping the country's communist government develop its weapons programs. The department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned Pyongyang-based Amroggang Development Bank for its ties to Tanchon Commercial Bank, a financial institution that has been sanctioned by the United States since June 2005. The agency also blacklisted Kim Tong Myong, Tanchon's president, for directing Amroggang under a pseudonym.
