UK Seeks to Maintain EU Sanctions Post-Brexit

British officials on Thursday confirmed their intention to keep national sanctions in line with those of the European Union following the United Kingdom's intended departure from the bloc in 2019. In a 77-page report, the U.K. government said it would use its "tools and privileged position in international affairs" to maintain its prominent role in shaping EU foreign policy, security and defense, including by implementing sanctions against Russia for its support of separatists in Ukraine.
