Justice Department Cases Will Complicate Efforts to Moot Online Gambling Ban

U.S. Justice Department cases tied to a controversial ban on online gambling will likely complicate congressional efforts to overturn the law before a June enforcement deadline, say government officials and consultants. At least 19 lawmakers, including House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA) and Ron Paul (R-TX), have pushed in recent years to overturn or delay the implementation of the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), which outlawed online betting and requires financial institutions to block payments tied to the online companies.
