OFAC Blacklists, Removes Record Number on SDN List in 2008

The U.S. Treasury Department blacklisted a record number of individuals and organizations in fiscal year 2008, the same period when it lifted a record number of sanctions, a U.S. official said Thursday. The department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) added more than 420 individuals and organizations to its Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list, the government's chief blacklist for economic sanctions, between October 2007 and September 2008, said Adam Szubin, the director of OFAC, during a New York securities compliance conference.
